On Sat. Jan.14th, the Ft. Polk SU 254 Girl Scouts helped the Children's Environmental Awareness and Health Initiative place 75 Christmas trees in Alligator Lake for a habitat for wildlife project. The girls had to clean all tinsel off the trees, cut the lower branches off to fit into a cinder block, then nail a small board to the truck of the tree so when it is lowered into the lake it will sink. This is the 7th year the Girl Scouts and CEAHI have worked together to help make a Habitat for the Ft. Polk lakes
Service Unit 301 and 304 (Ouachita Parish )
On Saturday, April 14th, Service Units 301 and 304 in Ouachita Parish teamed up to host their first "Me and My Buddy Dance." The theme of the night was "Game Night." About 30 girls and 26 "Buddies" including dads, uncles, and grandfathers came out for a fun-filled evening with their favorite Girl Scouts. Activities included door prizes, several games including one about how well you know your buddy, a swap made from a poker chip that the girls decorated with glitter, a delicious spaghetti dinner, and of course lots of dancing! This event was all about the girls and their buddies, so about fifteen moms volunteered the event to decorate, DJ, prepare the food and games, and clean up! The event was a huge success and they are already starting to plan for next years.
